HAROLD'S INTERIOR

Harold's Interior builds on over 90 years of experience in working with materials, craftsmanship, and construction – reimagined as timeless objects for the home. GRID is an expression of our conviction that good material endures far beyond its initial purpose.

The manufacturing of bags creates leather scraps that cannot be used for further bag production due to their size or natural characteristics such as scars and shadings. These individual marks are caused by the animals being raised in open pastures and tell the story of the leather. Despite these "imperfections," the scraps are full-value, high-quality leather.

In our search for further possible applications, we were inspired by the principle of expanded metal. Stamped slits followed by the "stretching" of the raw material create a grid-like mesh structure. This allows the original surface area to be almost doubled – a principle that forms the basis for the development of the GRID.

This principle can be applied to our robust, tear-resistant, and vegetable-tanned saddle leather. Analogous to expanded metal, precise cuts are made in a staggered and close-meshed grid.

A grid-like structure is created. Unlike expanded metal, the structure is flexibly stretchable and malleable. The original natural - flawed - characteristics of the leather recede into the background and become part of a new, distinctive surface.

The greatest challenge in development lay in the precise coordination of web widths, transitions, and cut lengths. To achieve a balanced equilibrium between elasticity, stability, and delicacy, countless trials and a high degree of craftsmanship were required in our German production.

The final result is formed into a flexible cylinder by two fine seams. GRID wraps protectively and snugly around glasses, carafes, bottles, or vases and adapts to vessels with a diameter of approximately 6 to 9 centimeters.

The GRID makes vessels individually recognizable and gives them a special, decorative effect. Especially at events with multiple people, the sleeve offers a stylish solution for clearly identifying glasses and avoiding confusion.

The natural surface of the leather ensures a pleasant feel and a high-quality tactile experience. At the same time, GRID protects the surface of the vessels when
placing them down, moving them, or transporting them. Furthermore, the leather structure provides partial protection against heat and cold from the vessel's contents.

The GRID shows that through the conscious use of materials
and precise craftsmanship, new timeless objects with their own identity can be created.
Existing material is not replaced, but rethought
– its natural history is preserved and finds a new form.
